Google has been fairly active in rolling out India-centric features for Maps.

Google India today launched a lighter version of Android operating system that it said will work on devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM, and also unveiled a Google Assistant version that runs on Reliance Jio semi-smartphones.

However, it will also answer questions that do not have any answers on the Internet, such as "How old are you".

Starting with the biggest - Android Oreo (Go Edition). It is now available in India and will reach other markets over the coming months. "For them, Android Oreo (Go edition) will help improve the experience on entry-level phones while new apps like Files Go will ensure their experience is smooth and they consume less data", he said.

Google also announced Tez's significant next step, which is "Bill Payments" option. It has tap-first user interface which helps people explore new ideas, find things to share and guide them around the web.

Google has already launched YouTube Go that is in beta testing phase in India. Google Assistant will be available in both English and Hindi. It is unclear if "motorcycle mode" feature for Maps will be available for users in other markets as well.

Over the next few months, Google will also offer information on air quality for 20 Indian cities through its platform. Just add the biller and Tez will then show if you have any pending bills and then you can pay them from your connected bank account.

In tests over the last month, the average user saved 1GB of space, Google said, adding that it was built from scratch for Go edition devices.

Tez has processed over 140 million transactions from almost 12 million active users.

At its launch, the bill payment facility will support over 70 billers, including national and state electricity providers, gas and water, and DTH recharge, Google said.

If you're on a bicycle or motorcycle, it's easier to maneuver through traffic than with a auto - and now, Google Maps has finally caught on to the idea. While the interface may be different, the core functionality of the service is expected to stay the same, meaning JioPhone users will get to enjoy numerous same features that are available to smartphone users. Sengupta said Google is now working on offering WiFi hotspots across Indian cities and is also taking it to other markets like Indonesia.
