Gronkowski apologizes for cheap shot against Bills

Tre'Davious White injured following ridiculous cheap shot from Rob Gronkowski

After the play was over, White was laying face down on the Patriots sideline when the 6-foot-6, 265-pound Gronkowski leapt and dropped his full body weight on the rookie.

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski could be suspended for next Monday night's visit to Miami because of a hit on Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White, which left White in concussion protocol. Losing him for even one game would be a significant blow to the Patriots' offense, which lost tight end Martellus Bennett to a season-ending injury last week.

Moments after the final whistle, Sean McDermott and Bill Belichick spoke at midfield and the Patriots coach appeared to apologize for Gronkowski's risky hit.

Bills coach Sean McDermott told the media that he wasn't happy with the hit that injured White, adding that he didn't believe there was a place in the National Football League for behavior like his.

Gronkowski also apologized after the game and said that he was frustrated by the officiating throughout the game.

Gronkowski felt he was interfered with on the pass play that resulted in a Bills interception, unsnapping his chinstrap in disgust before diving into the back of White's head.

The Patriots defeated the Bills 24-3.

From the top, I think referee Gene Steratore erred by not kicking Gronkowski out of the game.

In the locker room after the game, Gronkowski issued an apology of his own.

"I'm not in the business of that. At that moment, it happened naturally through emotions and frustration".

Gronk: "I definitely want to apologize to No. 27. It was just frustration".

Asked if his frustration was based over the past couple of games, Gronkowski quickly shot back: "Over the past seven years!" McDermott appears to confront Belichick about the hit and Belichick responds by saying "I understand, it was bullshit, i'm sorry". A couple times in the game. "I said "anybody else makes that type of play, they're ejected". It's unfortunate and I know he's a better player than that". Later, Gronkowski explained what led him to grow so frustrated. It was just frustration.
