The report comes two days after Israeli reportedly fired several missiles at an Iranian military base just south of the Syrian capital.

Syrian state TV reported the Syrian military's missile shields intercepted at least three Israeli missiles bound for weapon plants and military bases.

A report from Syria states the missiles targeted Jamriya, a city approximately 3 miles northwest of the Syrian capital.

According to Hezbollah affiliated Al-Mayadeen news site, Israeli warplanes had been flying over southern Lebanon at a low level before launching six missiles towards the research center in the Jamraya area, around 11:30 p.m.

The speaker of the Iranian parliament also said that Tehran believes that the development of intelligence cooperation with Moscow is important for combating drug trafficking.

Israel regards Syria's closest ally Iran as its number one threat over its curtailed, but still existing nuclear programme, hostile rhetoric and support offered to anti-Israel forces throughout the Middle East.

"The air defences of the Syrian army were able to deal with the attack. destroying two of the missiles", it said, adding that the attack nonetheless caused "material damage".

In September, the BBC revealed satellite imagery which purported to show that Iran had established a military base with several buildings which likely house soldiers and military vehicles.
