Evacuations were also issued for Arroyo Street north of the 210 Freeway and areas of Maclay, Pocoima Wash west of Sayre Street and Eldridge, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart stated in an update.

"Our courageous men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department are working tirelessly in coordination with other first responders to protect lives and property and stop the forward progress of the devastating fires", said Supervisor Barger.

As of 3:20 p.m., the Rye Fire has grown to 5,000 acres with 5 percent containment.

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi) in Castaic is closed as a result of the fire burning off Hasley Canyon Road.

It remained unclear what caused the fires were, though the strongest Santa Ana winds of the season were responsible in part for the swift movement of the fires, hampering conditions for firefighters to contain the blazes.

Officials of the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department said large animal sheltering was available at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster, at 2551 W. Avenue H. The office said calls were being rerouted so as to help everyone in need.

The Rye Canyon Loop, West Ranch and Travel Village areas have been evacuated. Thousands of acres have been scorched and thousands of homes have been evacuated. An evacuation center was established at Valencia High School.

Newhall Ranch Road westbound is also closed at McBean Parkway.

The Rye Fire burns as the Creek Fire in Sylmar and Thomas Fire in Ventura County are wreaking havoc. He added that the firefighters have a "really good" perimeter surrounding the fire and they hope to have a good handle on it.
