"I love my country", Green wrote in a letter to his colleagues Tuesday.

"In doing this, hatred disguised as acceptable political correctness has festered in our body politic and polluted our discourse to our detriment".

Trump's rhetoric, while not criminal, still "divides and damages the social fabric of our country in ways that obstruction of justice can not", Green wrote in his letter.

Green's resolution accuses Trump of causing "harm to American society". The articles also mention Trump's comments regarding NFL protests during the National Anthem, and the anti-Muslim videos he retweeted on November 29. No Republicans have said that Trump ought to be removed from office and many Democrats, particularly those in the party's leadership, have said talk of impeachment is premature.

Pushing impeachment before the investigators complete their work, they say, could undermine the prospect of bipartisan action on impeachment should the inquiries uncover compelling evidence against the president.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has called the effort premature amid ongoing Russian Federation investigations into alleged ties between the Kremlin and Trump campaign advisers.

Democratic leaders appeared to have prevented Green from bringing an impeachment resolution in October, when the congressman ultimately stopped short of offering it.

Green tried to force a vote on the issue Wednesday. "Andrew Johnson was impeached for less, and articles of impeachment will be brought against him today".

The resolution will not pass the House. But the resolution was set aside, and it will be considered sometime in the next two days. But he later pledged to force a vote by Christmas. Both remained in office after the Senate voted to impeach failed.

Reps. Seth Moulton (D., Mass.) and Jim Himes (D., Conn.) told the Wall Street Journal last month the impeachment discussions don't help Democrats in House races as they seek to win back the chamber in 2018.
