Lindsey Vonn: I want to represent United States, not Trump at Olympics

Targeting Olympic gold at February's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Vonn is in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where she spoke passionately about what it means to compete for the USA ski team.

"I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the opening ceremonies", she said. And, you know, I want to represent our country well, and I don't think there are a lot of people now in our government that do that.

Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson said she will not go to the White House if the team is invited again after winning its fourth National Basketball Association title. "And I don't think that there are a lot of people now in our government that do that", she said.

Away from the slopes, Vonn also appears willing to put her head above the parapet and speak out about United States politics.

Vonn is hailed as America's best female ski racer.

Vonn is arguably the most well-known member of the US Winter Olympic team, having won four World Cup overall championships as well as an Olympic gold in the downhill at the 2010 Games. In September, the president also retracted an invitation for two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry to visit the White House-even though Curry had already said he wasn't going to make the trip. "If I were invited to the White House, which I consider a great honor, I would not attend".

Typically, the entire U.S. Olympic squad gets an invite to the White House after the games.

After missing the 2014 Sochi Games with a knee injury, Vonn suffered a broken arm last November that delayed the start of her season until January. She broke her arm a year ago and is still recovering from nerve damage.
