An upturn in form for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at Arsenal may be down to the approaching transfer window, says Emmanuel Petit.

Arsenal have reportedly received a huge boost in their bid to commit Mesut Ozil to a new long-term contract, according to reports in the Sun.

City are aware they will likely to have to come in with a big offer, if also to avoid the situation going to the wire in the way it did in August, and are prepared to do so even though the player will be available on a free in the summer.

The Germany worldwide will become a free agent in the summer, so he can sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Sanchez has turned down an offer to extend his deal at the Emirates and the Gunners looked resigned to losing him either in January or for free next summer, with the striker allowed to speak with foreign clubs in the New Year. The club's asking price in case of a sale would be upwards of £15 million.

Ozil is the team's main creative force in midfield and attack, standing out for his uncanny ability to find the right pass.

Miguel Delaney of The Independent claims that sources within City feel that with the addition of Alexis, the Blues can push for a Premier League and Champions League double this season, explaining the urgency to bring in the 28-year-old. In the 2015-16 campaign, he provided a remarkable 19 assists. As long as they are here they give their best for the club. However, as Arsenal couldn't secure a deal for Thomas Lemar from Monaco, negotiations broke down and Sanchez remained in north London.
