Special counsel subpoenas German bank for Trump account details: Reuters source

The Deutsche subpoenas were sent several weeks ago, according to the Bloomberg report.

Jay Sekulow, a lawyer for Trump, denied the report, telling Reuters: "No subpoena has been issued or received".

Deutsche Bank, which has loaned the Trump organisation millions of dollars for real estate ventures, said it would not comment on any of its clients.

In addition, Manafort and his longtime business associate, Rick Gates, are now facing several felony charges brought by the special counsel's office. ABC News previously reported the bank helped finance the renovation of the Old Post Office in Washington, D.C., the purchase of the Doral golf course in Florida and the construction of an office building in Chicago.

Mueller also splashed out $733,969 to acquire office equipment for the investigation, which the DOJ report explained will remain federal government property after the probe is finished.

Five months ago, Trump called any move by Mueller into unrelated financial issues a "red line" that could prompt him to exercise his executive authority in regard to the special counsel. Majority Republicans did not participate in the request for Deutsche Bank, and the bank did not provide the committee with any information. Law professor Ryan Goodman suggests that Mueller could be trying to determine if Trump's loans from the bank were guaranteed by Russian interests, which could mean he was indebted to them in ways that could compromise him. More recently, though, he has highlighted news reports that Peter Strzok, the former top FBI official assigned to the investigation, was reassigned after it was discovered he and another team member had exchanged texts disparaging Trump and supporting Clinton. (The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment.) And during the campaign, Deutsche Bank was separately under investigation by the Justice Department for its role in the 2008 financial crisis.

Reports of the subpoena came after Mr Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, last week admitted he had lied to the FBI over his contact with Russia's ambassador and agreed to cooperate with Mr Mueller's investigation. As of the time of this publication, we have not received a response from Mr. Sekulow confirming his position on the Trump defense team.

Trump, his wife, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner are understood to beclients of Deutsche Bank.

'One obvious question is why Trump and those around him expressed interest in improving relations with Russian Federation as a top foreign policy priority, and whether or not any personal considerations played any part in that, ' the second official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The first four and a half months of the probe comes with a price tag of more than $6.7 million, according to Fox News.

Manafort was charged, along with his longtime business partner Rick Gates, for work on behalf of Ukraine unrelated to the campaign. Those trades are being investigated in multiple probes in the United States and Europe.
