North Korea Missile Launch Photos Tampered With, Scientist Says

Korean Air didn't provide details of theflights that saw the "flash", or say where they were at the time of the event.

An official at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, "It appears that Singapore Airlines is flying over Busan and the east coast of Japan rather than flying through Gangwon Province and the East Sea".

Airlines operating routes between Korea and the United States are changing flight paths to avoid areas that may be exposed to missile launches from North Korea.

Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia on the safety precautions it was taking, Singapore Airlines said that its planes were not affected as it had already taken steps in July to reroute flight paths. "At the moment, no one is changing any routes or operating parameters", the airline said in a statement.

The airline changed the route back in July after a previous North Korean missile test, according to CNN Money.

David C. Wright, a senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists, wrote in a report Tuesday that the Cathay crew most likely had seen the missile's first stage burn out and fall back to earth. One of the missiles just missed hitting an Air France plane flying from Tokyo to Paris, France 24 reported.

Meanwhile, tensions on the Korean Peninsula continue to escalate, with the US and South Korea launching major joint drills on Monday.

In response to the launch, President Trump said the United States will "take care of it".

North Korea has a reputation of altering images it releases to the world, tampering with everything from Kim Jong Un's ears to hovercrafts conducting an amphibious landing. "As long as there is a continuous hostile policy against my country by the U.S. and as long as there are continued war games on our doorstep, then there will not be negotiations", Han Tae Song said at the time. That plan would see the drills suspended in exchange for Pyongyang halting its nuclear and ballistic missile tests. Washington called an emergency meeting over the actions of Pyongyang. Lavrov slammed the comment as a "bloodthirsty tirade".
