Detective Pikachu is set to begin filming in mid-January in London and will be led by Goosebumps director Rob Letterman. So as you can probably guess, the movie will also feature a talking Pikachu, very likely speaking in Reynolds' voice.

Ryan Reynolds will be playing Detective Pikachu in his upcoming film. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the live-action Detective Pikachu film from Legendary and The Pokémon Company as we learn it. The script comes from Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls). Reynolds will lend his voice to the electric rat, in a performance that will apparently rely on a lot of motion capture.

Detective Pikachu is set to take a different approach, following Smith's character on a quest to rescue his kidnapped dad. In 2016, Pokemon became more popular as a gaming app. Pokemons are fictional creatures created by Nintendo who have special powers. Circumstances will force him to team up with Pikachu.

Not much is known about the storyline so far, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds's sleuthing character helps Smith's character find his missing father.

IGN reports Reynolds had been one of several names reportedly being considered for the role alongside Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
