The new fire was situated in the Sepulveda Pass, where the San Diego (I-405) Freeway cuts a path through the mountains to connecting West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The fire was so intense that the CHP reportedly closed both sides of the iconic 405 Freeway between the 101 and 10 freeways.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Fire Department is also fighting the Creek Fire in the Sylmar and surrounding areas of L.A. County.

The Bel-Air fire ravaged Bel-Air and Brentwood over two days, destroying more than 500 homes - including those of some celebrities. Evacuations were initially ordered in the area north of the Foothill Freeway from Glenoaks Boulevard on the west to the border with La Crescenta on the east.

Mandatory Evacuations are in effect.

Estimated at 50 acres and fueled by 25 miles per hour winds, the blaze was expected to grow, Los Angeles authorities told the newspaper.

"This is the start a multiple-day weather event so we're not through this yet", Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck told reporters at a briefing.

Citywide, about 600 officers were assigned to coordinate security and various "firefighting events, " Beck said.

One of many horse left behind as an early-morning major alarm brush fire that broke out in the Kagel Canyon area above Sylmar Tuesday. Six fixed-wing aircraft and a number of helicopters were deployed to the scene, Garcetti said.

The multiple wildfires in Southern California were spreading so fast in part due to what officials called the strongest Santa Ana winds of the season.

Los Angeles County firefighters from station 28 attack a fire that broke out Wednesday morning at the Wildlife Waystation at the Creek fire which has burned more than 11,000 acres and destroyed at least 30 structures.

Stunned motorists found the hillside ablaze and gridlock below as fire raced towards the homes of numerous city's rich and famous.
