Taylor Swift still waiting for her dollar

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Almost four months after Taylor Swift won her sexual assault case against a Denver radio host, the pop star is speaking out about her "demoralizing" days in court. The Associated Press reports that Mueller has provided them with a letter to prove he sent the payment on November 28, but in what he calls a "final jab" at the singer, he paid her with a Sacagawea coin.

She told Time that she had her reasons for going after Mueller in a lawsuit: "I figured that if he would be brazen enough to assault me under these risky circumstances", she said.

Swift, who was named one of the Silence Breakers, TIME's Person of the Year, spoke to the magazine about her August 10 testimony in the suit. "My mom was so upset after her cross-examination, she was physically too ill to come to court the day I was on the stand".

"It means 'no means no" and it tells every woman they will decide what will be tolerated with their body, 'Taylor's attorney said, according to The Independent via Reuters at the time.

"When the jury found in my favor, the man who sexually assaulted me was court-ordered to give me a symbolic $1". She said that she was told afterwards that her testimony was the most times the word "ass" had been used in a Colorado court. Swift countersued for a symbolic $1, accusing Mueller of assault and battery. In the story, Swift said she had not yet received the dollar; she said "that act of defiance is symbolic in itself".

The interview also has Swift sharing advice for anyone who has experienced this kind of abuse: "You could be blamed for the fact that it happened, for reporting it and blamed for how you reacted". At first, everyone thought that Taylor was suing him. For Swift, it wasn't about money, but the principle that women can say "no" and stand up to predatory men.

But despite the bad blood between Swift and Kardashian, Taylor still hopes that she and all the others who have come forward about sexual harassment this year have helped to make a difference. There was an audible gasp in the courtroom when I was named as the defendant.

Taylor explained in the cover story that if a man could be so fearless to assault someone with celebrity status such as herself, how much would he do to a struggling and vulnerable artist?

Swift's straightforward testimony was widely reported at the time, and she explained that that was the only way to counteract what she'd been through.
