Wants His Star Trek Film To Be R-Rated

Quentin Tarantino's F–king 'Star Trek' Movie Will Be Rated R

Quentin Tarantino's F–king 'Star Trek' Movie Will Be Rated R

Rumors spread earlier this week that legendary director Quentin Tarantino would meet with Trek film producer J.J. Abrams to discuss helming the franchise's next big-screen adventure. Abrams liked it, Paramount seems to like it, and Tarantino has now presented it to a writers' room of scribes, and they seem to like it too.

In the more than five decades since the original series premiered, "Star Trek" movies and TV shows have been a decidedly family friendly affair.

Movie studios typically see R ratings as a drag on ticket sales because they exclude teenagers, which is why movies in tent pole franchises like "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" are nearly universally rated PG or PG-13.

More as we hear it.

The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith is apparently the frontrunner to write the script from Tarantino's story concept.

Not surprisingly, the idea for the bold new film comes from Quentin Tarantino, who basically doesn't get out of bed for anything less than an R rating. The idea of a movie that's dripping with blood and gore feels even further removed from the core optimism of Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future.

An R-rated Star Trek movie would be rather interesting as we can guess the language and violence-factor would be amped up in addition to the possibility of adult (nude) scenes. There are an very bad lot of corrupt leaders and petty squabbles in the Kelvin timeline, which feels far removed from the Star Fleet of Roddenberry's work, which is made up of admittedly imperfect people who always strive to be the best they can be. This kind of movie or TV show can end up feeling tiresome and tedious, and it takes a master of storytelling to make hopeful optimism look cool and exciting. Are you excited for what's sure to be a Star Trek unlike anything we've ever seen before?
