"Payload will be my midnight cherry Tesla Roadster playing "Space Oddity". With more than 5.1 million pounds of thrust at sea level, the Falcon Heavy is slated to become the most powerful rocket now in use. The new vehicle will be the most powerful rocket in production, capable of carrying more than 63 metric tons of cargo to low-earth orbit-or almost 17 metric tons to Mars.

Musk said a year ago that there was too little cooperation between Tesla and Space Exploration Technologies Corp.to justify merging the two, dismissing the idea that had been raised by one of Jonas's colleagues as "quite tenuous". CEO Elon Musk revealed that the company is aiming to send it to the Martian orbit next month from the same iconic launch pad where Apollo 11 took off.

SpaceX president/COO Gwynne Shotwell went on the record last week saying (to Aviation Week magazine) that there will be a static test-firing of the giant rocket's engines in December, and that the launch will follow in January 2018 at the earliest. It's a more powerful rocket that the company hopes to use for missions to the Moon and Mars.

Musk has stated that the Roadster would be the quickest vehicle in the Tesla lineup, with a new acceleration mode called "Maximum Plaid".

In what can only be described as "the freakish news of the day", Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla has announced that the next SpaceX mission rocket will carry a very unique payload - his own first generation Tesla Roadster.
