Part of US President Donald Trump's 58-story midtown Manhattan skyscraper, Trump Tower, caught fire Monday morning.

Fire erupted on the rooftop of New York City's (NYC) Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan on Monday morning.

Trump, who has lived in a penthouse apartment for 30 years before, was in Washington at the time of the blaze. Two civilians and a firefighter were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the AP reported. The department said a fire started around 7 a.m. Monday in the heating and air conditioning system of the building.

Eric Trump, one of the president's sons, said on Twitter that it was a small electrical fire in the cooling tower on the building's roof. We had flames coming out of the vents, no smoke condition or fire was on the inside' - #FDNY Manhattan Borough Commander, Asst.

Sakowich went on to say that the FDNY was able to "extinguish the fire without any problems" and that their entire response plan went smoothly.

Sakowich said the fire remains under investigation.

By 8 a.m., the smoke had cleared and firefighters appeared to have left the scene, footage showed. "The men and women of the #FDNY are true heroes and deserve our most honest thanks and praise!" According to his tweet, the fire originated in a cooling tower on the roof of the high-rise and that the NYFD responded within minutes.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the city's fire marshal according to a FDNY spokesperson.
