Arsenal in race to sign Pavon, Walcott set to join Everton

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed that he is interested in the possibility of signing Theo Walcott from Arsenal during the January transfer window.

However, the attacker has been in and out of Arsene Wenger's starting lineup in North London for several seasons now, with injuries and the presence of more consistent stars having made life hard for Walcott in the English capital. His eight starts this season have been in the competitions, where the veteran French boss usually fields his fringe players.

Southampton have shown interest in signing their former academy product but his £140k a month salary could prove problematic. However, Everton are the favourites to sign Walcott, as they could match the forward's £110,000 per-week wages.

However, if Walcott prefers not to uproot his young family from the south of England, Southampton may well find themselves in pole position to land him.

Elsewhere, other media outlets are reporting that West Brom, Brighton and Crystal Palace are ready to battle it out for Everton striker Oumar Niasse, who the Toffees reportedly value at £13million.

The lack of first-team opportunities has left Walcott destined to leave the club.

Walcott has played very little this season, with his total of 49 minutes of Premier League football coming across five appearances.

Theo Walcott is however on his way out of the Emirates, with the Mail claiming Everton will pay £20m for the England forward.
