Boca Juniors respond to rumours Cristian Pavon is set for Arsenal transfer

While, club president Angelici revealed that there had been no offers from anyone for the young Argentinian star, he also admitted that if the player's release clause is met, the final decision will be down to Pavon.

The 21-year-old has been capped by Argentina twice and has scored 14 goals in 51 games for Boca in the league since joining the club in 2014.

However, others aren't so sure about the 21-year-old Argentina worldwide, with concerns about his end product.

Argentine sports channel TyC Sports then claimed that Arsenal were prepared to trigger Pavon's £27.3m [$37m] release clause, but Boca are awaiting contact from the Premier League giants. I am not going to cut off his career, but we made him a nice contract so that he would be comfortable. "It is then the player who has the last word", added Angelici.

However, it looks like Wenger may have a surprise target in mind as recent reports have suggested the boss has lined-up Boca Juniors attacker Cristian Pavon as the man he wants to replace Sanchez. "We always help him with his future, but I trust Pavon will be with us for 2018".

Arsenal's purported interest in Pavon comes after they failed to complete a deal for Thomas Lemar during the summer transfer window after an agreement with Monaco collapsed on deadline day.

If Sanchez does leave Arsenal in January, a replacement will be needed, and Pavon is available at a reasonable price in today's market.

Arsenal fans have been quick to comment their thoughts on the potential arrival.

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain interested in West Brom's Jonny Evans and have made an offer including Mathieu Debuchy, per David Woods at the Daily Star.

Boca are not looking to part with the player mid-season and before the end of Copa Libertadores, which eventually sees only one option left for Arsenal - to meet the buyout clause.
