'More than 5000 families' flee towards the Turkish border as Syrian government forces and Russian airstrikes close in

The Syrian army said the attacks caused material damage.

Israel insists that it supports neither of the parties to the Syrian conflict and is not involved in the talks to resolve the crisis in that country.

In the first attack, Israeli jets launched several missiles that crossed Lebanese airspace towards their target in Al Qutayfah, in the province of Damascus, the statement said.

Furthermore, the letter asserts that the attack allegedly conducted by Israel violates United Nations resolutions and would not have been possible without U.S. support.

An Israeli military spokeswoman declined to respond to the Syrian statement.

The Syrian army statement described the attack as a "flagrant Israeli aggression" and renewed its warning of the risky repercussions of such attacks, holding Israel "fully responsible for its consequences".

The semi-rural area east of the Syrian capital is home to around 400,000 inhabitants and is targeted nearly daily by regime forces trying to flush out rebel groups.

"If the strikes on civilian centers continue, there is the possibility of an additional 400,000 civilians trying to make their way to the Turkish border".

State media said the Syrian army broke through rebel lines Sunday to reach soldiers trapped at the Murakabat vehicle base near Harasta, in the eastern Ghouta suburbs.

Syrian troops and allied forces captured 14 villages from rebels in northwest Syria on Monday as they advanced toward a strategic military airbase in the only province under complete opposition control, the Associated Press reported.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the blast struck the headquarters of a minor rebel faction.

More than 90 civilians were killed and over 200 others injured in attacks in de-escalation zones in Idlib in the past three weeks.

Asked Tuesday whether the withdrawal could have been premature in view of the drone attack, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian forces in Syria have "all the necessary means" to counter any challenge.

The bombing came after Syrian television said the country's military had recaptured Sinjar, a strategically important town in Idlib province, in its latest advance into rebel-held territory this year.
