Ford sued in federal court over claims of diesel emissions cheating

Ford to launch diesel in 2018 F-150

Ford fans have been asking for a fuel efficient diesel offering in the smaller, lighter, F-150 truck for a while now and Ford will now offer just such a truck in the 2018 model year.

Law firm Hagens Berman said in a release that it believes Ford and German supplier Bosch installed "emissions-cheating software devices" in the MI automaker's 2011-2017 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickup trucks.

Neither Ford nor Bosch have reacted to the accusations.

The complaint states Ford violated 58 state consumer, advertising, trade and federal collusion laws and "concealed and suppressed material facts".

It adding that "Ford did not act alone", but colluded with Bosch in an organised scheme to evade emissions requirements, for sake of profit.

The vice president, Ford Motors, David Filipe say the diesel model will comply with USA emissions rules. In the case of Volkswagen it was often referred to as "Dieselgate".

The law firm Hagens Berman claims in its suit that "The trucks' touted performance, power and towing capabilities are only obtained by switching off or turning down emissions controls when the software senses the vehicle is not in an emissions-testing environment".

Ford is, of course, just one of numerous carmakers alleged to have cheated on emissions testing with their diesel engines.

In the tests Ford conducted on the F-250 and F-350 vehicles, "emissions are routinely as high as five times the standard", the lawsuit said, quipping that the trucks should bear the moniker "Super Dirty".

Obviously, the owners are upset, as the diesel engines in the vehicles cost approximately $8,400 more than the gas-powered options.

Earlier this week, Ford announced that the 2018 Ford F-150 will be offered in a diesel engine.

Ford is pushing back against the claims. Ford will start taking orders for the new diesel F-150 this month.

For those that tow their show or race cars the Ford F-Series Super Duty with Power Stroke diesel has been the go to hauler for decades.
