Manchester United to subsidise fans travelling to Sevilla

Manchester United have made a decision to charge visiting Sevilla fans £89 for their Champions League last 16 clash in response to the Spanish side's pricing strategy for the game at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Manchester United have responded to their Champions League ticketing row with Sevilla by increasing prices for the Spanish side's supporters.

In addition, to ease the financial strain on their own supporters, Manchester United will use the proceeds of those ticket sales to subsidise those who have bought tickets to the away leg.

The visitors to the Theatre of Dreams will be charged the same price as Manchester United fans are being asked.

Part of the statement on Sevilla's website read: "Sevilla FC will subsidise the price increase for club members travelling to Manchester".

United's correspondence also revealed they plan to subsidise £35 towards their travelling fans' tickets to bring the cost down to £54, the figure Liverpool supporters paid in the group stage.

UEFA rules stipulate that at least five per cent of a stadium capacity's should be available to visiting supporters, yet Sevilla claim United have not offered them 3,800 tickets for security reasons.

The Daily Mail report that Sevilla had allocated 2450 tickets for United fans at €100 and another additional 200 tickets set at €150 but given what Manchester United have chose to do with regards to subsidising their own fans tickets, a ticket will cost around €60.

"With this subsidy, the club will guarantee that no club members pay more than the 60 Euros (£53.15) initially specified".

"Right now everything is hypothetical as United have not informed the club officially of the price rise", added the source.

United attempted to persuade Sevilla to lower their prices but discussions between the two clubs failed to lead to a significant reduction.

"We have been working with the club since the ridiculous £89 price was known to ensure our fans didn't end up paying this much".

The first-leg of the tie will see United travel to Seville and the La Liga side have come in for criticism as a result of what they are charging the travelling Manchester support. "We are delighted United have fought our corner on this issue".
