Akayed Ullah allegedly detonated a pipe bomb underneath New York City's Port Authority.

The man accused of setting off a pipe bomb in an underground subway passageway beneath the Port Authority bus terminal has been indicted.

The suspect accused of attempting to bomb a NY subway transit way was indicted by a grand jury on six federal charges Wednesday stemming from the botched December 11 pipe bomb attack.

"When we have an indictment containing charges like this, I think it's easy to lose sight of the important and invaluable rights that every person is afforded in our system of justice, including Mr. Ullah", Gallicchio said.

Akayed Ullah was indicted by a jury in the Southern District of NY on six counts, including attempting to provide support to the Islamic State and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, the office said.

Ullah was hospitalized for injuries suffered after the bomb ignited but failed to detonate as intended, while three other people suffered minor injuries, according to prosecutors. Ullah said he had.

Ullah's public defender, Amy Gallicchio, would not explain the unusual phrasing. Only he was seriously injured.

He has also been charged with one count each of bombing and attempting to bomb a place of public use and a public transportation system; destruction and attempted destruction of property by means of fire or explosives; conducting and attempting to conduct a terrorist attack against a mass transportation system.

Emotions ran high at the time of Ullah's arrest, which occurred in the middle of the holiday season and quickly fed the political machine.

Ullah could face life in prison if he is convicted of all charges in the attack.

When Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Sullivan asked Ullah his plea, Ullah replied, "At this moment, not guilty".

According to court documents, Ullah made a taunting Facebook post directed at President Donald Trump before the attack. Turner estimated that if the case went to trial, it would likely take one to two weeks.
