The US on Wednesday expressed hope that Pakistan would "come to the table" and demonstrate willingness to "aggressively" confront terrorist groups that operate from its territory, amid reports that Islamabad has suspended its military and intelligence cooperation with America.

After much criticism from the Trump administration, the government of Pakistan has chose to cease all military and intelligence cooperation with the United States, according to Pakistani defence minister Khurram Dastgir Khan.

Responding to a question, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said that both Pakistan and the United States continue to communication with each other on various issues of mutual interests at different levels. He pointed out that Pakistan has been facilitating the USA led mission in Afghanistan through air and ground lines of communication for the last sixteen years. "Pakistan does not want to put a price on its sacrifices but wants them to be recognized", the Defence Minister said.

The briefing comes as the USA in recent days stepped up efforts to put pressure on Pakistan to do more to combat terrorism.

The U.S. announced last Thursday it would not deliver military equipment or transfer security-related funds to Pakistan, suspending the so-called Foreign Military Financing (FMF) and Coalition Support Funds (CSF) but not civilian assistance to that country.

The statement comes days after Trump administration blocked the $255 million military aid to Pakistan.

In his Tuesday speech, Pakistani Defense Minister Khan also reminded the United States it needs Pakistan in its fight against terrorism in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani response comes after U.S. president Donald Trump's statement on January 1, in which he accused Pakistan of being a "safe haven to the terrorists". Responding to another question, the spokesperson said that Pakistan desires to resolve all outstanding disputes with India including Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen and Sir Creek through dialogue.

"Pakistani-Americans are patriotic and have served our nation in battle".

Reports also suggested that the USA decision to block aid to Pakistan could affect about 2 billion US dollars worth of assistance.

"Our expectations are straightforward: Taliban and Haqqani leadership and attack planners should no longer be able to find safe haven or conduct operations from Pakistani soil", said Army Col. "The specific individual things we're doing are best handled in private, to ensure that we can be most productive - and that's what we're working now".

Asif made the latest claims during a meeting with the foreign diplomats which was organized in reaction to the recent United States moves for blocking the security aid to Pakistan. Tensions between the United States and Russian Federation have been high since Russian Federation was accused of meddling in the latest USA presidential elections.
