India's Supreme Court on Tuesday reversed a ruling that ordered the national anthem to be played before movie screenings while audiences stand a ruling that sparked a spate of arrests and attacks on cinema-goers who refused to rise

This statement from the Supreme Court of India has come has come as a whiff of fresh air for innumerable movie buffs who visit the theatre to get some relaxing moments to spend with their family, friends and loved ones. He said, "If you are going to watch Sunny Leone's film then how can the national anthem be played in the auditorium and there may be any other adult movie also".

The court left the choice of whether to play the anthem to the discretion of individual cinema hall owners.

"

"In the name of entertainment, the National Anthem somewhere compromised its dignity, I respect the decision of the Supreme Court, because this decision will honor the National Anthem."

". The 77-year old Bhopal resident started a campaign against dishonour of the national anthem after being upset by the way it was portrayed in a 2001 Bollywood blockbuster, and how people didn't stand up when it was played on screen.

However, the Supreme Court on Tuesday revoked its short-term order on mandatory playing of national anthem before movie screenings in cinema halls after multiple instances of vigilante patriotism.

A Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, clarified that it is not mandatory to play the anthem before screenings.

The bench further noted that all citizens are bound by the 2012 order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, wherein a set of guidelines was laid down on singing and playing of the 52-second national anthem.

According to theIndian Express newspaper, India's attorney general K K Venugopal told the court that "in my suggestion, the word "shall" in the order could be changed to "may", leaving it to cinemas to play or not to play" the national anthem. It was also stated that the audience must stand up during the national anthem to pay respect.
