At the time of the story, Donald Trump was suffering from [air quotes] "bone spurs.' Today, the world is suffering from the real Donald Trump".

"What amazes me is that (Trump is) such a bad con artist", De Niro told USA TODAY.

The Goodfellas star introduced The Post, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks' film about US political corruption in the 1970s, as the best picture victor at the ceremony on Tuesday (09Jan18) and used the moment to slam the president.

"Our baby-in-chief - the j-off-in-chief, I call him - has put the press under siege, ridiculing it through trying to discredit it through outrageous attacks and lies", De Niro said. Then referring to Trump, he said, "This f-king idiot is the president. It's The Emperor's New Clothes - the guy is a f-- fool.our baby-in-chief - the "J--in-chief" I call him", De Niro said while introducing Meryl Streep. De Niro was to make a speech introducing actress Meryl Streep to receive her award for "best actress" at the National Review Board, Gala. De Niro said, "The Post is a wonderful movie even though the story takes place fifty years ago but there are many parallels today".

Later, he added, "The movie gave us glimpses of President Nixon as delusional, narcissistic, petty, vindictive, nasty, and batshit f-king insane".

Robert De Niro is calling President Donald Trump names again.

The Post is based on the publication by The Washington Post of the leaked Pentagon Papers, a secret study of the United States involvement in Vietnam from the mid-1940s.

Also attending Tuesday's event in NY were noted Hollywood Trump critic Meryl Streep, Whoopi Goldberg, Angelina Jolie, actress and former Miss Israel Gal Gadot and late-night host Stephen Colbert.

De Niro has always been one of Trump's biggest critics.

As for his award presentation to Streep at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, he also had some choice words in support of women in the film industry, as transcribed by Sopan Deb, culture reporter of The New York Times.
