Ted Ginn Helps Lead the Saints to the NFC Divisional Playoff Game

Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor had a tough game against the Jacksonville Jaguars defence

Interim general manager Marty Hurney insists the Carolina Panthers handled the medical treatment of quarterback Cam Newton "the right way" during Sunday's 31-26 playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints.

A heck of a play that allowed the Saints to defeat the Panthers for the third time this season, marching on to the NFC Divisional Playoff Game. He played a key role in his team's victory, sacking Newton and forcing the game-deciding intentional grounding call.

Helped by the presence of tight end Greg Olsen - who did not play in the teams' previous two meetings - Newton marched Carolina into Saints territory more often than not. "We wanted it more". "And we're gonna focus on Minnesota to get another win. That's what we didn't do". Just two plays later, who else but former Panther Ted Ginn to catch a bomb from Drew Brees (13/18, 230 yards, two touchdowns) for an 80-yard touchdown, putting the Saints up 7-0?

Newton threw a touchdown pass on the next drive when he returned to the game, but it was not enough as Carolina fell to the Saints 31-26.

The Bills had plenty of chances down the stretch, but a huge penalty against Charles Clay and then a tackle that knocked quarterback Tyrod Taylor out of the game ended any threat of a comeback.

"Clearly he's trying to be more of a pocket passer and I'm OK with it", Jordan said at the time. I hate that I couldn't do enough to get a win today for a lot of guys that I think so highly of. "We know if we keep playing ball, good things will happen", Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell said.

Saints defensive end Cam Jordan posted a picture on his Instagram story of him sending Panthers QB Cam Newton a bottle of wine for losing to New Orleans three times this season.

"'Find your matchups and let's go make some plays.' And that's what we were able to do". But New Orleans played so well against the Panthers, you would have thought their respective seasons had been almost opposite.

"If a team is going to give you that, then I feel with the matchups we have outside that there should be opportunities", Brees said.

The Saints may have taken a sledge hammer to the exhausted sports cliché, "It's hard to beat a team three times in one year" but they showed it's incredibly difficult to beat a team three times the exact same way.

The Superdome crowd went from raucous for three hours to near cardiac arrest in the final minutes, especially after Sean Payton's ill-fated decision to go for it on fourth-and-2 at Carolina's 47-yard line with two minutes remaining and a tenuous five-point lead. Ginn is a similar type of dynamic threat that defenses must account for (at a much lower price than Cooks will command as a free agent next year).

In a season where the big stories were about the Saints offense relying less on Drew Brees and more on a power running game featuring Alvin Kamara and Ingram, Sunday was about Drew Brees reminding everyone he's still fantastic at 38 years old.

"There are a couple of plays I personally would like to take back", Panthers safety Kurt Coleman said.
