Ford will fit the brakes on its redesigned 2019 Edge midsize crossover vehicle and its new 2019 Ranger midsize pickup, that will compete later this year with the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma.

For example, the Blue Oval has made a decision to showcase there - in front of the worldwide audience of the North American International Auto Show - the updated Ford Edge midsize SUV, complete with the all-new introduction of the ST version.

The all-new performance SUV has a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that churns out 335-horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

The Edge ST will have a Sport mode and a fast shifting 8-speed transmission. If you want a set of red-painted brake calipers - as you should, given that it's an ST - you'll have to pay for an optional performance brake upgrade. Ford begins introducing the coveted ST brand to its SUV lineup with the unveiling of the all-new Edge ST today, building on its best-ever SUV sales year in the U.S.

All '19 Edge models get a wider and more layered grille and new front fascia, with standard LED headlamps pulled to the corners to create a wider and more planted appearance, says Steve Gilmore, design manager. It comes with standard 20-inch wheels, but a 21-inch wheel option is also available, as are Pirelli P Zero tires.

The 2019 model comes standard with forward-collision warning, dynamic-brake support, pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert and assist, automatic high beams and hill-start assist.

Evasive Steering Assist: Helps drivers steer around stopped or slower vehicles to help avoid collisions. A wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of connecting up to 10 devices at once, as well as the latest version of Ford SYNC, now compatible with Ford+Alexa, will make their way in the crossover. Given that the engine only makes 5 extra horsepower over its predecessor yet features stop-start technology, expect the majority of improvement to be seen in fuel economy. The development team also aimed for improved handling with a retuned suspension and larger brakes that can scrub speed off in a hurry.

Inside, the facelifted 2019 Edge features a redesigned center console featuring a new rotary gearshift dial. By comparison, the most powerful version of the Edge now makes just 315 hp and the standard-issue model is rated 245 hp.

Built at the Oakville Assembly Plant in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, the new Ford Edge and all-new Edge ST are due to arrive in showrooms this summer.
