Incidentally, Laxman Mahto, Lalu's cook and Madan Yadav, his attendant allegedly conspired to land themselves in the jail after convincing the Ranchi police of having beaten a person and looting Rs 10,000 cash from him. "This shows that Lalu Prasad's commitment to social justice is a sham and he cares only for himself and his family members", JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, according to PTI.

In fact, such is the bond between the former Bihar Chief Minister and his aides, that the Ranchi police on Tuesday said that, two of Lalu's aides got themselves convicted in a false case so that the duo can serve the RJD supremo, who is now lodged in the Birsa Munda Central jail. Eleven of them died and three turned approvers while two other accused confessed and were convicted in 2006-07, a CBI official said.

The RJD, however, jumped to its leader's defence, insisting the presence of the two-Lakshman Mahto and Madan Yadav-was "conicidental".

"We will take the message of Lalu Prasad he had conveyed in a letter before going to jail to the people of the State and let them know how he has been victimised by the conspiracy of the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar", Mr. Yadav said.

The superintendent of Birsa Munda Central Jail, could not be reached immediately for comment. Thereafter, they had a fight with a neighbour and were booked.

"They abused me and assaulted me when I asked them to return my money which they had borrowed".

Lalu has been convicted in one of the cases of the fodder scam, wherein Rs900 crore from the Bihar exchequer was siphoned off under the pretext of purchasing fodder for livestock, during the '80s and '90s.

On September 30, 2013, the RJD supremo was also held guilty in the RC 20A/96 pertaining to illegal withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore and given five years prison term.

The moment an FIR was filed, Laxman Mahto and Madan Yadav surrendered before the police.

JDU has hit out at Lalu Prasad for the stunt performed by his cook and attendant to ensure he gets the best of services inside the jail.

A special CBI court is expected to pronounce judgment later this month in the third case of multi-crore fodder scam against Lalu related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 35.62 crore from Chaibasa Treasury in 1990s.
