The United States itself has its own problems such as unemployment among millions of people, inequality and non-access to healthcare for many poor people, Duarte said. He then reportedly asked why the United States didn't bring in more immigrants from a country like Norway.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin on Friday said President Donald Trump used "hate-filled, vile and racist" language when talking about immigrants from Haiti and Africa, and that media accounts of what Trump said have been accurate.

The Government of Botswana has today made public a press release condemning Donald Trump's alleged terming of African nations as "shithole countries".

"The language used by me at the.meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", Trump said on Twitter. The largest is El Salvadoran, the second is Honduran and the third is Haitian and when I mentioned that fact to him he said "Haitians?"

Trump also described the meeting as a "big setback for DACA!"

By 7:45 a.m., the president took to his favorite platform, Twitter, to address his reported comment.

In a discussion about immigration from African nations, Mr. Trump asked why he would want "all these people from shithole countries", according to people with direct knowledge of the conversation.

"Warren rejected the idea that Trump's reported comments reflect all Americans".

Trump has said he wants to end the DACA program in March unless Congress takes action.

"The exact word used by the president, not just once but repeatedly", he added. He also suggested his future meetings with lawmakers be recorded.

But Durbin did not waver on Trump's use of the vulgarity for African nations.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about the president's tweet.

CNN, NBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post reported on Trump's remarks, based on various sources who were briefed on an Oval Office meeting.

"Last night, several Republican senators said that they were embarrassed by what the president said, and they wanted to be more visible in their support of our bipartisan effort".
