Rahul Gandhi says Congress supports Andhra demand for special status, asks all parties to unite

Rahul Gandhi says Congress supports Andhra demand for special status, asks all parties to unite

Lending support to the issue, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that his party supported the "just demands" of Andhra Pradesh for special category status.

"The deep differences between both the sides has not just indicated about their fallout soon, but also made way for other national parties and their leaders to announce their backing for TDP leaders" protest in Parliament. Key Announcements: Strong protests made BJP step down and TDP MPs too played a crucial role in the Parliament through their protests after which key announcements have been made.

Rao also assured that the Central government will make all funds available as per commitment and much more. Later, an official from the water resources department said that out of the requested sum, the Narendra Modi-led central government has only reimbursed Rs 417.44 crore.

A special package will be allotted in place of Special Status.

Andhra Pradesh received Rs 13,000 crore in last four years as claimed by the government but Telangana has got only Rs 2,000 crore, he said, adding "we don't go with begging bowl as long as people are with us".

As the TDP is an ally of the ruling BJP government at the centre, the relation between both the parties have been strained over the issue after presentation of Union Budget. Congress' KVP Ramachandra Rao walked into the Well of the House holding a banner that read: "Implement Special Category Status, Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, assurance given by PM on 20.02.2014".

"Andhra Pradesh has been provided funds for which is entitled to and the rest is under implementation", assured K Hari Babu, the president of the party's Andhra Pradesh unit.

He said that in a meeting held on Friday, the major issues related to the demands of the political parties have been sorted out. "Stop this", he said and suggested that the TDP should resolve the matter through a dialogue with the Finance Minister.

Sources said that on Friday, before the Finance Minister's reply to the debate on the Union Budget in the Upper House, Chairperson Venkaiah Naidu had called a meeting with Chowdary, Jaitley and Shah as continued protests by the TDP MPs had marred House proceedings.
