The driver of a double-decker bus that overturned in Hong Kong killing at least 19 people and injuring more than 60 was arrested on Saturday evening for risky driving, police said.

The bus was on its way from Sha Tin racecourse to Tai Po Centre when it flipped onto its side while attempting to turn.

In Hong Kong, the accident occurred on a busy highway in the New Territories, with surviving passengers telling local media the driver had been speeding.

KMB general manager Godwin So Wai-kei said the 30-year-old unidentified driver joined the company in 2014 and had driven the route before.

Meanwhile in Java, a packed tourist bus returning from an outing collided with a motorbike and plunged off a hill after its brakes apparently failed.

A total of 65 people were injured, some critically, according to local police.

He was not in need of any medical treatment after the crash and was found to be sober, Mr Lee added.

"He was late for 10 minutes", a passenger told the China Morning Post.

A press release from Hong Kong authorities today revealed that 18 perished at the scene of the accident. Police said the driver was arrested. "He is still being detained for further enquiries".
