The injured were rescued and shifted to a private hospital where one of them is in a critical situation.

Mani, an eye witness said: "I was alerted by a huge sound at 4.45 pm while working at my shop near the building". The rescue operations were underway by the time this report was published. The building was located on Kasavanahalli on Central Jail Road near Haralur. 15 more workers were reportedly trapped under the debris.

According to reports, the building has been under construction for six years.

Mayor Sampath Roy was quoted by The News Minute as saying that the building owners had constructed five storeys while they had sanction to construct just three.

The State Disaster Response Force was pressed into the rescue operations, along with the police personnel. Officials of the National Disaster Force are also expected to reach the spot shortly.

At least three people were killed and one injured Thursday after an under-construction building collapsed in southern Indian city of Bengaluru, officials said.

The building was under construction for over six years and was abandoned after the construction stopped two years ago. In another incident from Bengaluru, seven people were killed when a two-storey building collapsed in the congested bylanes of Ejipura.
