Bradie Tennell keeps United States hopes alive in women's team figure skating event

The Americans sit in third place as we enter the final day of the figure skating team competition, set for Sunday night and featuring the free skating events.

The pressure was on for Bradie Tennell in her earlier-than-expected Olympic debut Sunday morning, and by all accounts the Carpentersville resident delivered.

Helped considerably by the second-place finish of the Shibutani siblings, Alex and Maia, in their short ice-dance, the United States advanced to the final phase of the team competition, which will be contested Monday when medals are awarded after the free skates in dance, men's and ladies.

But months of rehabilitation led to a bronze at Skate America in 2017, followed by victory at the U.S. Nationals last month that earned her selection for Pyeongchang, where she said she fears no competitor. She began skating at age two when she pestered her mother to take her to a rink.

"I just want to go out there and put it all out there and leave nothing behind". Bradie Tennell, the USA champion with very little global experience?

And that's precisely how Tennell handled her Olympic debut Sunday at Gangneung Ice Arena, where she delivered a letter-perfect, technically proficient short program that lacked the emotional range global judges like to see. "I feel like I get more done with my day", she said.

A product of Buffalo Grove's Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion, Tennell was asked after the event where she "had been" before her rapid rise to the US women's team and Olympic stage. "It has been a lot of hard work and determination". The 20-year-old will take the ice in hopes of keeping the United States in medal contention in the team figure skating event.

Read on for the key viewing details for Sunday, as the team event reaches its climax with the two singles skating events and the free dance. Team USA is again in position to medal when the event concludes in PyeongChang on February 12.
