Ex-Olympic swim coach denies abuse allegations

Olympian accuses ex-swim coach in Seattle of sexually abusing her when she was 16

Olympian accuses ex-swim coach in Seattle of sexually abusing her when she was 16

She describes the alleged relationship in a long blog post that she calls 'My Story'. That seems to be the case once again in the world of sports.

Kukors competed at the 2012 Olympics and retired the following year. "I absolutely deny having any sexual or romantic relationship with her before she was old enough to legally make those decisions for herself". "It's still hard to comprehend, but Sean had perfected the art of grooming; I wasn't even aware I needed saving", she wrote.

'After the 2012 Olympics we were in a committed relationship and Ariana lived at my residence in Seattle for more than a year.

He added: "I deeply regret that she would make these wild allegations all these years later".

Hutchison was the head coach on the 2008 US Olympic team and head coach of the 2009 US team at the world championships. Hutchison left coaching shortly thereafter but remains a member of USA Swimming as the owner of a member club based in Seattle.

He met Ms. Kukors when he was a coach at King Aquatic Club in Seattle, according to Ms. Kukors's statement. "We stand by her, and all other victims, in their quest to break their silence and confront their horrific experiences".

Kukors, now 28, said in a statement on Wednesday that she went to police to report that Hutchison sexually assaulted her on trips and while training at Seattle area pools.

'I never thought I would share my story because, in so many ways, just surviving was enough, ' Kukors said. I'd never been physical with anyone before but I now found myself alone with him, engaging in sexual acts and trying to hide my embarrassment when he sat in the women's locker room and watched me shower.

"I'd like to tell you it only happened a few times, but that was just the beginning of an extensive, abusive, and incredibly manipulative relationship that spanned the better part of the next decade of my life", Kukors wrote on her website.

Kukors went public yesterday with allegations that Hutchison began "grooming" her at the age of 13 and sexually abusing her at the age of 16, all while he was her coach. "That their parents, mentors and guardians are better able to spot the signs of grooming and realize its tragic consequences before it's too late", she said.

Sean Hutchison said in a statement Thursday through his attorney that at no time did he ever abuse Kukors or do anything with her that was not consensual.

Department of Homeland Security investigators on Tuesday searched Hutchison's downtown Seattle apartment, according to seattlepi.com, recovering electronic devices the investigators say may contain evidence that he sexually exploited swimmers he coached.

"Much like the USOC knew about Larry Nassar years before his arrest and did nothing, USA Swimming had notice in 2010 that Sean Hutchison was involved in an inappropriate coach-athlete relationship with Ariana and took no actions to protect her or other swimmers", he said in a statement.

U.S. Olympic champion swimmer Ariana Kukors has accused Hutchison of sexually abusing her starting when she was 16. The US Olympic Committee has said it will appoint an independent investigator to probe the organization and USA Gymnastics to determine who knew what and when in that case.

Mike Saltzstein, a former vice president of USA Swimming who previously complained about the organization's handling of sexual abuse cases, questioned the thoroughness of the 2010 investigation. They were at an out-of-state meet, she writes, when "Sean snuck me into his room to finally give me my "gift"; I'll spare you the details, but the memory of that night will always haunt me".

Hutchison was the head coach of the USA women's team in 2009 and also was one of the Olympic coaches in 2008 at the Beijing Games.

The investigation began January 23 when police in the Seattle suburb of Des Moines got a report about sex crimes at its city pool. The crimes happened between 2002 and 2007, when the victim turned 18.
