Facebook Confirms Test of 'Downvote' Button for Comment Moderation

The "like button", one of its most associated features, didn't roll out until 2009.

Still, the fact that Facebook is testing this shows that Zuckerberg is willing to try a little structured negativity on his site. The test is running for 5 percent of Android users in the US with language set to English. Facebook has said that this is a test for a limited time period and it won't affect the ranking of the posts in any way.

Facebook first introduced "Like" option in 2009 after that, many users signed a petition asking for a "Hate" or "Dislike" button, all of this public outrage resulted into different "emoji" reactions in 2015. When tapped, the button hides a comment and gives users additional reporting options such as "offensive", "misleading" or "off topic". "This is running for a small set of people in the USA only". For not it is being tested in the United States only. Here's what we do know so far. The thumbs down reaction button, dubbed as dislike button by users, would be the "No" button, according to the company. Either way, the option is sure to have a large effect on the discussions that take place on Facebook, and it's something users have been asking for for years. Is this something you want to see on Facebook?

The news begun to breakout after some users found out different options placed on a comment section of public pages post, Christina Hudler was among them who noticed this and responded on Twitter with the screenshot of her Facebook page feed.

But for those of you hoping the changes might see the platform finally introduce a literal "dislike button", well, you're shit outta luck.

Facebook says it's testing a "downvote" button but denies it's working on a "dislike" button, one of its most requested features. In this way, it seems that Facebook is enlisting its users in its ongoing campaign to stamp out misinformation and propaganda on the site. "We need to figure out the right way to do it so it ends up being a force for good, not a force for bad and demeaning the posts that people are putting out there".
