Field agents from the FBI's MS office interviewed Bennight at the time, about five months ago.

Bennight snapped a screenshot of the comment in September 2017 and sent it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in addition to reporting it to YouTube, which removed the comment and has since deleted the commenter's channel.

According to BuzzFeed, a MS bail bondsman who runs a YouTube channel saw the concerning comment on one of his videos.

The FBI special agent in charge of the Miami division, Robert Lasky, confirmed Thursday morning that the bureau received a tip past year about the YouTube comment.

The FBI contacted Bennight again on February 14 after Nikolas Cruz, 19, allegedly shot and killed 17 people at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.

Cruz was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and had multiple ammunition magazines when he surrendered to officers in a nearby residential area, police said. They contacted him immediately, according to CNN.

The FBI did confirm in a Thursday morning press conference that they were unable to determine the commenter's identity at the time: "No other information was included in the comment, which would indicate a time, location, or true identity of the person who made the comment. I don't", Bennight said.

"I think we spoke with you in the past about a complaint that you made about someone making a comment on your YouTube channel", Special Agent Ryan Furr said to Bennight in a voice mail. Both on the phone and in person, he told them that he didn't know who Nikolas Cruz was, beyond the one YouTube comment from his account.

And the trail went cold shortly after that, investigators said. "I didn't. They took a copy of the screenshot and that was the last I heard from them".
