Google Pixel Owners Sue Google Over Allegedly Faulty Microphones

The original Google Pixel premiered to great fanfare in 2016.

Both generations of the Google Pixel have had their fair share of issues.

Specifically, Patricia Weeks of Florida and Waleed Anbar of California are taking action over Google's refusal to offer a refund or replacement for Pixel smartphones that are plagued with "defective microphones".

Google's Pixel and Pixel XL handsets suffer from a hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec, the company confirmed a while back. The filing reads that the Pixel lawsuit covers "all individuals in the United States who purchased a Google Pixel or Pixel XL smartphone, other than for resale, between October 4, 2016 and the present".

An AndroidCentral report that yet another lawsuit has been filed against Google in the same week. Once a trial is approved, customers will most likely get a notification providing info on how to actively participate in the case.

The original Pixel phones were meant to showcase the very best of Google's Android software, and were meant to help Google better compete with Apple's iPhone.

Girard Gibbs LLP [official, website], the law firm bringing the suit against Google for microphone defects, is also investigating a potential claim [press release] regarding the Google Pixel 2 XL alleging a screen malfunction where "the display remains visible even after changing the screen to display something else, degrading user experience". And unfortunately, with how many defects we've noticed in the Pixel 2, Google might be facing something identical a few years down the line. That wasn't the case for the original Pixel, however.

The Pixel 2 sports a 5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1,080x1,920 pixels (441 ppi pixel density) and a 2,700mAh battery with fast battery charging technology, while Pixel 2 XL features a 6-inch P-OLED capacitive touchscreen with 1,440x2,880 pixels (538 ppi pixel density) and houses a 3,520mAh battery with fast battery charging technology.

This isn't the first time that Pixel owners have complained of issues with the device.

Wireless "Pixel Buds": The headset received savage reviews for a cheap look and feel, mediocre sound quality, and being hard to set up and confusing to use.
