'Grand Theft Auto' maker Take-Two posts profit on tax gain

Take-Two swings to profit, has high hopes for Red Dead Redemption 2

The 2013 release, which was later ported to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC with a new first-person mode, has been holding gamers' attention for four years now, and its momentum still hasn't slowed.

Grand Theft Auto V also comes with Grand Theft Auto Online, the dynamic and ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe with online play for up to 30 players, including all existing gameplay upgrades and content released since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online.

So it shouldn't be a surprise, then, that the game has set yet another milestone in sales.

This trend will continue for the long run, and both Rockstar Games and Take-Two plan to keep tapping this rich vein of engagement for quite some time.

Take-Two, which launched "Doomsday Heist" for the online version of its popular game "Grand Theft Auto", said it had a net benefit of $11.9 million from the overhaul of the USA tax code. This is not all, by doing a simple math calculation we came to know that Grand Theft Auto V sold over 15 million units in 2017. Things added up really quick.

Take-Two Interactive, publisher of franchises including Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has reported a profit increase during the last fiscal quarter in their latest earnings release.

Take-Two also revealed that GTA Online, the online multiplayer portion of GTA V, was the single largest driver of recurrent consumer spending during the past quarter. This means that the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature them as well but it's yet to confirm in which form. That's definitely a possibility, and considering it's selling like hotcakes everywhere else, we don't see why it wouldn't be a massive hit. Despite now being available on current-gen consoles, the fact still remains that Grand Theft Auto V debuted on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
