Olympics Women's giant slalom- five things to know

Lindsey Vonn is competing for her second gold medal in this year's Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

A gold medal victor in the downhill in Vancouver eight years ago, Vonn is hoping to end her Olympic career on a high note. The opening ceremony kicks off on Friday, February 9, and her first scheduled event is the Super G on Saturday, February 17.

Vonn's 88-year-old grandfather Don Kildow passed away last month and the skier has spoken several times of his importance in her life.

LINDSEY VONN'S flight to South Korea for the Winter Olympics was in jeopardy - after she had the "wrong documents".

"It was the wind that blew me down", said the flamboyant Italian skier who clocked the fastest speed at 71¼ miles per hour (114.7 kph).

I think it's the jetlag. she's so confused! "Maybe they can find me a man", she said, before adding the footnote that the man-search was just bantz. When asked if she would take part in the Opening Ceremony, Vonn said on Twitter, "Yes, that's what I'm trying to get to".

On Sunday, the three-time Olympian won her third straight world cup downhill and capture her 81st world cup win.

"I've been waiting a very long time for these Olympics".

Lindsey Vonn has had her run, but it's time for Mikaela Shiffrin now.

"In 2010 I was a much healthier athlete but in 2018 I am a much stronger athlete. And I feel closer to him when I'm skiing". Vonn has an estimated net worth of about $3 million, as well as endorsement deals with Under Armour, Red Bull, Beats by Dre, Procter & Gamble and other companies. But I know he's watching.

Tell us what you think! She enjoys sleeping the majority of the day.

Innerhofer, who has form on the mountain having finished second in the super-G in the test World Cup event two years ago, has struggled to bother the podium on a regular basis since his Sochi showing but insisted he still had something to offer. "It's extremely lonely on the road ..."

"Hopefully they can find me a guy now", she said, then paused.

"Dear Grandpa, I still can't believe you're gone".
