The 2014 flyweight world championship silver medal victor, it will be Whiteside's first taste of a multi-sport event.

Team England's preparation camp for the Gold Coast will include a number of specially selected high-performance sports and support facilities that will enable athletes to continue training and complete their final preparations prior to entering the Commonwealth Games Village.

England have won a combined 15 Commonwealth Games table tennis medals in the past.

"Competing alongside my twin brother (Luke has been selected at light-welterweight) will make the tournament event more exciting".

The games are held on Australia's and start on April 4.

King has a superb record at the Commonwealth Games, winning a singles bronze medal at Glasgow 2014, a silver in the mixed with Martin Knight in Dehli 2010, and gold in women's doubles in Dehli with Jaclyn Hawkes.

"I know that they are all excited and they are all going to be focused on performing at their best".

"I'm pleased that we've announced a strong team of 12 athletes", said team leader Darren Chapple.

"Paul and Liam were our first selected athletes to the team, having achieved their qualifying standard a year ago, they are joined by extremely talented teammates with good experience". I'm going for gold on the Gold Coast - it's got a nice ring to it.

'I have always wanted to go travelling to Australia, so to be able to go there through boxing is better still. Our male team is also strong and notably contains two brothers, Pat and Luke McCormack, and two Olympians alongside 10 debutants. "I am very proud to be working with this group and look forward to supporting them at the Games".

"The draw represents a major milestone on our journey towards Gold Coast 2018, the landmark Games for the global rugby family with the inclusion of a women's event for the first time, which reflects the ambition of our 2017-25 strategic plan to accelerate the development of women in rugby".
