Hopes for peace on the Korean Peninsula may have gotten another boost on Wednesday as North Korea announced that leader Kim Jong Un's younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, will visit South Korea on Friday to attend the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

United States Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday said that Washington is planning to impose "toughest and most aggressive" sanctions against Pyongyang.

"We have never begged for dialogue with the USA nor [will we] in the future", the North's state-run KCNA news agency quoted Jo Yong-sam, a director-general at the foreign ministry.

Video footage showed her walking with Kim as military personnel lined a red carpet offering salutes to their supreme leader. The North also formed a group of male cheerleaders in their 40s and 50s for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"Until North Korea gets on a pathway to giving up its nuclear weapons, this pressure and all these sanctions, and we've got more to come, are going to keep coming", Tillerson said, according to the Post. After her elevation, the US Treasury Department had reportedly included her on the list of blacklisted officials of North Korea.

Relations between North Korea and the global community have declined over the past year.

"We will continue to isolate North Korea until it abandons its nuclear and ballistic missile program once and for all".

North Korean state media said on Thursday that officials have no intention of meeting with their USA counterparts during the upcoming Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. "It is significant that the delegation also includes Kim Yo Jong, who is Chairman Kim Jong Un's sister and holds an important position in the Workers' Party of Korea".

And Pence's personal guest at the games will be Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, an American who died previous year days after his release from captivity in North Korea.

"I think that now we've at least taken another step forward", he said in Seoul.

It is speculated that she might carry a message from her brother to the South as she becomes the first member of the immediate family to cross the border between the countries that are technically still at war.

Kim Yo Jong was blacklisted a year ago by the U.S. Treasury Department over human rights abuses and censorship.

President Moon Jae-in and US Vice President Mike Pence shake hands at the South Korean presidential office on Thursday. Steinmeier believes that with tensions between the North and the United States rising, it is essential to involve China and Russian Federation to further the aim of nuclear disarmament.

Kim Yo Jong, who is believed to be around 30, has quickly ascended the political ranks in Pyongyang.
