Officials Investigating Possible Cyberattack At Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

Throw in there the accusations that South Korea has had to arrange huge payouts for past meetings, and that these earlier encounters, while producing indelible images, have done little to slow North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons.

It would be the first summit between the two countries, which are divided by one of the world's most heavily fortified borders, in more than a decade.

"I leave here very confident that we are going to continue to do the things we've known have to be done to continue to pressure North Korea to abandon their nuclear ambitions". Pence carried a similar message during his trip to Japan and South Korea.

The game, played before South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's younger sister, was the first played by a Korean hockey team at the Olympics.

Kim Yo Jong, who is thought to be about 30 years old, entered the meeting with the president carrying a blue folder with the North Korean crest embossed in gold on the front, which she carefully laid on the table in front of her.

"The participants in the opening ceremony warmly encouraged the players of the north and the south who were marching together, holding the flag of the Korean peninsula bearing the Korean map".

Moon responded by expressing his intention "to create the environment for that to be able to happen". Pyongyang has repeatedly said it needs a deterrent to stop the United States attacking it.

That's what Pence tells reporters flying back with him to the United States from the Olympics in South Korea. But the Trump administration insists any negotiations must include the worldwide community's demands that the North abandon its nuclear weapons program.

At a Friday VIP reception for delegation leaders, Pence arrived late and stayed for just five minutes - and did not interact with the delegation from the North.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence also attended the Games opening ceremony but had no contact with the North Korean delegation.

Based on their agreements, the North has sent hundreds of its athletes, cheerleaders, an art troupe and staffers to the games, which kicked off on Friday in the South's eastern town of PyeongChang. "The world cannot turn a blind eye to the oppression & threats of the Kim regime", he tweeted earlier Saturday.

The biggest challenge is the skepticism being voiced in the USA, which seems incredulous that the North has any intention of giving up its nuclear weapons.

The two leaders vowed to resolve the nuclear issues by implementing the 2005 deal; end military hostilities through dialogue; replace the current armistice signed after the Korean War with a permanent peace regime; and expand business cooperation by building new joint economic zones, among others. He criticized the Trump administration for straining too hard to signal disgust of Kim Jong Un's government.
