Larry Fitzgerald informed new Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks that he will return for the 2018 season, after initially being non-committal about his status following the Cards' disappointing 2017 season.

The franchise has already seen its head coach retire, a subsequent coaching search that landed Steve Wilks and the retirement of its quarterback Carson Palmer. That's a challenge for a receiver who will be 35 before the season kicks off. "I spoke with Laryr last night, and it's a very exciting time for all of us, to all the Arizona Cardinals fans around the world, it's exciting that Larry mentioned to me last night he is coming back for the 2018 season". "He's a future first-ballot Hall of Famer".

The 34-year-old Fitzgerald had been hinting at a return, but stopped short of announcing his plans in every previous media availability - including his victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this past weekend. Fitzgerald sits 389 yards short of Terrell Owens (15,934) for second on the all-time receiving yards list and is 91 receptions from catching Tony Gonzalez, who is also second in National Football League history. However, it appears Fitzgerald feels confident enough in the direction of the team to play on for at least one more year. He won't catch Jerry Rice for most career receptions (1,549) and receiving yards (22,895), but with 92 catches, he'll surpass Tony Gonzalez (1,325) for No. 2 in that category, and he needs just 390 more yards to pass Terrell Owens' 15,934 for second all-time in yardage.

He finished 2017 third on both career lists with 15,545 yards and 1,234 receptions.

At the recent Super Bowl, Fitzgerald did sound optimistic about the new staff but would not commit to a return.
