Syria war: Assault on besieged Eastern Ghouta kills 200 in four days

Violence is intensifying in several parts of Syria, and in East Ghouta alone, hundreds of children are in urgent need of medical evacuation, she said, noting that four years of siege have crumbled health and other basic services and over the past few months, malnutrition has increased five-fold.

USA forces are present in Manbij, and despite Turkish demands say they don't intend to leave.

"My brother was hit yesterday in an air strike and we had to amputate his leg. Thank God it was only this", said an Eastern Ghouta resident reached by Reuters on Friday.

The Russian military says a USA strike on government-backed troops in eastern Syria reflects Washington's efforts to make a grab for the nation's economic assets.

A United Nations commission, tasked with investigating war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria, earlier this week condemned the upsurge of violence in Idlib and Ghouta, saying they "make a mockery" of the de-escalation agreement.

Russian Federation has intervened alongside Syrian regime forces in the seven-year civil war and Putin is seen as the foreign leader with the most influence over Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Turkish army releases statements every day but these are only amusing.

"We are living a catastrophe".

The offensive had trapped thousands of families in makeshift bomb shelters and overwhelmed rescue workers, but on Saturday life appeared to be returning to normal in some areas. Civilians in the countryside of Afrin have been fleeing their areas to safer places since the Turkish-led military campaign started against Kurdish fighters in Afrin. These numbers have not been independently confirmed, and Ankara denies the claim.

Last week Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag threatened to attack United States special forces who were working with the Kurds.

Tension has been escalating between the two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies amid Turkey's ongoing military operation into the Syria's Afrin against the People's Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers as the Syrian affiliates of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed by Turkey, the European Union and the United States as a terrorist organization. The raids began at midnight, state-run Anadolu news agency said.

The officials said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed to the summit during a telephone call on Thursday. Turkey considers the group a terrorist organization and an extension of an insurgency within its own borders that has fought for Kurdish autonomy for more than three decades.

SANA says the local fighters were battling IS militants and the USA -backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the area.
