Syria War Monitor Says Israeli Strikes Killed 6

Having backed the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad for many years during the Islamic nation's civil war, Russian Federation - which has established a massive military presence in Syria - has condemned Israel and urged its restraint from further retaliation against its Arab neighbors.

Israel has repeatedly warned in recent weeks against the presence of Iranian forces in neighbouring Syria. "Iran is dragging the region into an adventure in which it doesn't know how it will end", Israel's chief military spokesman, Brig. This incident proves every one of those warnings correct.

Netanyahu's vow to protect came after meeting with leaders of Israel's armed forces at its Tel Aviv military headquarters, where he announced that he had briefed Russian President Vladimir Putin about the escalating Middle East tensions.

"We can not confirm this report on the drone because Israelis are liars ... if Syrians confirm it, Iran will confirm it as well", Brigadier General Hossein Salami said.

Meanwhile, Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on global affairs, while speaking to the reporters in Tehran on Saturday said that the Syrian government and nation have proved that they would sacrifice themselves to "safeguard their country's territorial integrity, security and independence".

In a related development the Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon urged the Security Council to denounce alleged Iranian action.

Iranian and Iran-backed Shi'ite forces, including Lebanon's Hezbollah, have deployed widely in support of Assad.

Sources in Damascus said there were casualties among Syrian forces.

But Israel has refrained from striking Iranian sites directly.

While the Israeli military has claimed that the unmanned aerial vehicle they had intercepted was Iranian, Tehran has firmly denied the allegations.

The two crew from the crashed F-16 were alive after ejecting, although one was severely wounded, the military said.

Israeli aircraft then attacked Syrian and "Iranian targets in Syria", the military says. An F-16 fighter jet came down in northern Israel, with its two pilots managing to bail out of the plane.

Pro-government military alliance in Syria said in a statement on Saturday that Israel would see a severe and serious response to its "terrorism" from now on.

Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based militia and a close Iranian ally, announced that the downing of the Israeli jet represents "the start of a new strategic era".

For now, he added, the Israeli government appears to be dealing with Iran's actions in Syria "on a case-by-case basis".

But by far the worst example I saw was from The Metro, which is, according to Wikipedia, "a free newspaper published in tabloid format in the United Kingdom.distributed from Monday to Friday on many public-transport services and stations in cities and towns across the United Kingdom". "I think it's good that our enemies learn and understand these capabilities". "My feeling is that they don't have an interest in escalation".

The joint operations room, run by Syria, Iran, Russia and Hezbollah, said the aircraft was on a regular mission gathering intelligence on fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS).

While the extremist militants and the Syrian army are fighting each other, they share a common enemy in the Jewish state. "Iran only provides military advice to Syria", foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying on Iranian television.

Iran's expanding clout during Syria's almost seven-year-long war, including deployments of Iran-backed forces near the Golan frontier, has raised alarm in Israel.

Israel has shot down several drones that previously tried to infiltrate its territory from Syria. Netanyahu reiterated Israel's willingness to defend itself, while adding that military coordination between Russian Federation and Israel over the skies of Syria will continue.
