Trump's Listening Session With Shooting Survivors Takes Emotional Turn As Kids Beg For 'Change'

United States President Donald Trump suggested Wednesday that arming teachers was a way to stop more US gun rampages, as students galvanized by the deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school confronted lawmakers with demands to restrict sales of assault rifles.

U.S. President Donald Trump promised strong background checks and mental health screenings for gun buyers after hearing pleas from survivors of the recent Florida school shooting and affected families on Wednesday.

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested that school teachers should be armed to deter future mass shootings.

"If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly", Trump said during a televised event in White House on Wednesday.

Concealed carry was the subject of the President's morning Twitter missives on Thursday, when he said that he did not support giving all teachers guns but to those with "military or special training experience". Talking to people, Trump said, "A gun-free zone, to a maniac - because they are all cowards - a gun-free zone is 'Let's go in and let's attack".

He also criticised gun-free zones in schools.

The President's most controversial idea was to arm teachers with guns. "This shouldn't happen", said Pollack.

Trump said he would meet with numerous country's governors next week to discuss school safety. "The laws of the country have failed". I'm not going to see her again.

"I was born into a world where I never got to know safety and peace", said Gruber, who recalled hiding in a closet during the shooting as he texted his father.

"I lost a best friend who's practically a brother".

Bloomberg's White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs said Mr Trump did not even use the response written down for him, instead opting for "I just grieve for you" and "nothing worse".

Trump said gun violence prevention is only effective when faculty are properly trained in handling weapons. "Ideas?" followed by "I hear you". "And a deranged sociopath on his way to commit an act of murder in a school knowing the outcome is going to be suicide is not going to care if there's somebody there with a gun".
