Trump says lives are being ruined 'by a mere allegation' of abuse

Second White House official resigns amid abuse allegations

In a separate development Saturday, Trump accused Democrats of playing politics with classified information, asserting that their memo countering GOP allegations about the FBI's Russian Federation inquiry was a trap meant to "blame the White House for lack of transparency".

President Donald Trump on Friday praised White House aide Rob Porter, who resigned this week after allegations that he abused two former wives, and stressed that Porter has maintained his innocence. "Some are true and some are false". Some are old some are new. "There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone".

"As long as Donald Trump is president, our government is best served if John Kelly is in the job of chief of staff", Johnson said.

Saturday's tweet follows spousal abuse allegations against two Trump aides that roiled the White House over the past week.

In an interview with CNN, Porter's ex-wife Jennifer Willoughby detailed allegations of abuse, saying that during her marriage she lived under a "low-grade constant terror of not knowing what I might do to set something off".

"Before we were contacted by the media, we learned last night that there were allegations", said Raj Shah, the White House's principal deputy press secretary.

Ivanka Trump, who hired Hicks at her company prior to working for the Trump campaign, said Hicks was a "team player".

The statement came after White House speechwriter David Sorensen and staff secretary Rob Porter stepped down from their position after their former spouses accused them of physical and emotional abuse.

Comedian Dean Obeidallah said: "It sends a disturbing and powerful message to women across America that Trump Defended Rob Porter and wished him well".

When Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly faced a series of accusations regarding his conduct toward women last spring, Trump, again, came to the man's defense. And now, all of a sudden, they're saying these frightful things about him.

The president, meanwhile, has vociferously denied charges from more than a dozen women that he is guilty of sexual harassment or abuse. He said strongly yesterday that he is innocent, but you will have to talk to him about that'.

That's been the stance of the White House ever since. At a senior staff meeting on Friday, Kelly tried to push his own timeline concerning Porter.

Budget director Mick Mulvaney, among those mentioned as a possible Kelly successor if Trump were to make a change, also downplayed the speculation about Kelly's standing, suggesting those stories "are mostly being fed by people who are unhappy that they have lost access to the president".

The Washington Post first reported the allegations against Sorensen and his resignation.

"I found out about it very recently and I was surprised by it", the president told reporters at the Oval Office.

"He says that General Kelly - he's doing a great job and that he has full faith in him and I think he looks at the full measure of all of us", Conway added. "And he's very disappointed in it, and I think he believes the resignation was appropriate". When men who he likes or who agree with his political leaning are accused of this sort of behavior, Trump is quick to note their denials - and to slough off the very real evidence many of these women have to back up their claims.

Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation.
