Sunday's announcement brings to 31 the number of Turkish soldiers killed since the operation against the Syrian Kurdish militia started on January 20 with Ankara's cross-border incursion into the enclave of Afrin.

The incident marks an escalation in Turkey's operation in Afrin, which aims to defeat the pro-Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and their political wing, the Democratic Union Party (PYD). The ostensible reason given is the rooting out of what Turkey considers a terrorist group of #Kurds, who they feel is allied to the YPG.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to strengthen military and security service coordination in Syria, according to the Kremlin.

A technical team launched an investigation.

During an exclusive interview with Kurdistan 24 in an undisclosed military headquarters in Afrin, YPG's Brusk Hasaka stated that Ankara's hopes to invade the Kurdish region swiftly failed as his fighters put up what he described as "the resistance of our time" in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava).

This news is confirmed by a spokesman for the Kurdish militia, Mustafa Bali.

The multi-sided conflict is raging on other fronts too, with Turkey waging a big offensive in a Kurdish-controlled area of northwestern Syria, the Afrin region, where Ankara is targeting Kurdish militia forces it sees as a threat to its security. The Turkish president said, "We might lose a helicopter but they'll pay the price for this".

"For the past 21 days, the Turkish army has been violating all laws related to war", Hiddo said.

Officials of the Afrin Education Commission told VOA that two schools in Maydanki, one in Rajo village and another in Jindaresse were destroyed by Turkish shelling this week.

Syrian government forces and their allies launched a push into Idlib seven weeks ago, inching closer to a key highway that connects Syria's two largest cities of Damascus and Aleppo. One rebel was wounded, but there were no American casualties, Tom reported.

"In Syria, we are now back to the darkest period of this conflict, with the highest death toll among civilians over the past year", he said. The air strikes need to end, " Florence Parly said on France Inter radio, giving no further details.

The proposed measure came a day after the council failed to back an appeal by United Nations aid officials for a month-long pause in fighting.
