Not long before the Celtics raised Paul Pierce's No. 34 to the rafters Sunday, one of Pierce's longtime rivals - LeBron James - was in the building for a matinee between Boston and Cleveland.

But James had the last laugh this time around.

Pierce's former teammates Antoine Walker, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo were in attendance for the ceremony, along with Pierce's former coach in Boston and with the Clippers, Doc Rivers.

In their first appearances for Cleveland since being acquired at the trade deadline, Jordan Clarkson scored 17 points and George Hill 12.

Kyrie Irving had 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting, while Marcus Morris was the only other Celtics starter in double figures with 17.

James limped to the bench after being called for a charge when he barreled into Aron Baynes with 5:04 remaining in the first quarter of the nationally televised game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.

The Cavaliers broke free from a tight start with a strong performance in the middle quarters, outscoring the Celtics 33-20 in the second and 31-22 in the third. Unfortunately, the day will be remembered much less for Pierce's jersey retirement and more for the new-look Cavs turning the corner and manhandling Boston, 121-99.

James gave Cavs fans a scare when he left the game after suffering an apparent right leg injury late in the first quarter.

Havlicek, who played his entire career (1962-1978) with the Celtics, is the team's all-time leading scorer, followed by Pierce and Bird. The 10-time NBA All-Star played 15 seasons in Boston, winning the one Finals series and playing in another in 2010.
