Winter Olympics security guards had to throw US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un out of the Opening Ceremony on Friday.

The 2018 Winter Olympics are officially underway in PyeongChang, South Korea!

The doppelgängers made a brief appearance in the stands of the main stadium in Pyeongchang, South Korea to greet the crowd.

Shivering athletes are bracing for one of the coldest Winter Olympics on record, with real-feel temperatures plumbing minus-10 degrees Celsius at the opening ceremony. This is not the first time the song was played at an Opening Ceremony.

The invasion came just after the two Koreas had marched into the stadium behind the blue-and-white unification flag, possibly indicating the stunt was politically motivated.

Their story is one that many in Korea hope for: unification of the north and south almost 70 years after war divided the country.

Almost 500 North Koreans have arrived in South Korea for the Olympics, which run until February 25 and have drawn athletes from 93 countries.

The South is still technically at war with the North after the 1950 to 1953 Korean War ended in a truce, and the United States and North Korea have recently swapped nuclear threats.

It is not known if Kim Yo Jong will attend the women's hockey game on Saturday, but the team is playing Switzerland, where both she and leader Kim Jong Un went to school when they were children. A total of 2,925 athletes from 92 countries will compete for a record 102 gold medals.

Kim remained in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, where he oversaw a huge military parade the previous day. For them, the worldwide celebration of sports will also double as a showcase for the vast economic progress South Korea has undergone over the last six decades.

Vice President Mike Pence, in an exclusive interview with NBC's "Nightly News", vowed that the USA would protect itself from North Korean nuclear threats by taking whatever "action is necessary to defend our homeland".

A number of "neutral" Russian athletes marched in the parade - those cleared by the IOC to compete amid of a doping ban - and carried an Olympic flag.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Kim Yo Jong, the sister of north Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, shook hands during the ceremony.
