The charity's deputy chief executive Penny Lawrence resigned earlier this week after The Times revealed how some of its staff working in Haiti after the 2010 quake paid prostitutes for sex. Het Nieuwsblad contacted the 68-year-old man who feels very downcast.

The charity said it had publicly announced an investigation into the allegations when they surfaced in 2011.

She is referring to the fact that Mr van Hauwermeiren ended up taking another high-profile position, as the head of mission for Action Against Hunger in Bangladesh. "It is not that I deny everything".

A spokeswoman for Oxfam said Singh was one of the men fired by the charity in August 2011, following revelations of sexual misconduct while he was working for the charity in Haiti in 2011 following the quake.

"There are things that are correctly described". "Everything I see everywhere is hard to bear and pains me".

The country's president Jovenel Moise called that a "basic violation of human decency" and nearly 1300 regular donors have cancelled monthly payments in the light of this and further claims about potential abuse at the charity's United Kingdom shops and elsewhere.

"And though it is unfortunate that after 20 years I am no longer able to advocate and defend through this specific framework, social and economic injustice is more globally prevalent than ever", she said in a statement on Tuesday. Parties every week? Chic villas?

"We acknowledge that hundreds of Oxfam staff have done no wrong and work tirelessly for the people they serve, but the handling by the senior team about this investigation and their openness with us and the charity commission showed a lack of judgement".

British actress Minnie Driver quit her role as an Oxfam ambassador late Tuesday, saying she was "devastated" by the charity's response to the scandal. "The dismissal was not related to sexual misconduct and was not connected to the case in 2011, however, there were allegations of inappropriate behaviour".

Oxfam received £31.7 million in taxpayer funding in 2016/17.

Britain's development minister Penny Mordaunt warned that funding of overseas aid agencies will be cut if they fail to draw lessons from Oxfam's problems.

She was due on Thursday to meet with law enforcement to discuss possible prosecution, following claims Oxfam workers paid for sex with prostitutes in Haiti, where prostitution is illegal, after the 2010 quake. Lawrence was global programmes director from 2006 to 2014, when she became deputy chief executive.
